Veterinary schools aren't going to do this for free. Veterinary schools charge for their services same as any other veterinary clinic. They may charge a lower cost but you will be charged. Cataract repair is an advanced elective procedure which will NOT be done by veterinary students. Most likely if you do choose a teaching hospital the procedure will be done by a ophthalmology resident under the supervision of an attending clinician.

There are only two veterinary schools in California. One is at UC Davis. The other is at the University of Health Sciences in Pomona but I believe that they only offer primary care so you will not be able to get cataracts fixed there.
